Art with a Heart: the 2011 Dallas Art Fair Gala

Celebrating modern and contemporary art, the third annual 2011 Dallas Art Fair presented by Ruinart, was held at f.i.g this past April 8 through April 10, and showcased paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and photographs by modern and contemporary artists represented from more than 70 prominent national and international art dealers - including 17 galleries from Texas alone!

Mayor Tom Leppert, fashion designer and Project Runway star Shirin Askari, former First Lady Laura Bush (who was followed all night by a videographer), Steve and Lauren Christensen, and PaperCity power duo Jim Kastleman and Holly Moore were among the lucky guests who got to attend the Preview Gala hosted by Wells Fargo Advisors on April 7, which gave art patrons the opportunity to peruse the magnificent festival of artistic eye candy prior to the public opening of the fair.

The Dallas Art Fair had chosen the renowned Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and the Dallas Contemporary as the beneficiaries of the Preview Gala.

All of the art shown was available for sale.  Too bad I left my checkbook at home that night.... uh, yeah.  While 99.9% of the offerings were a little out of my price range, the funds raised from the gala event will allow the Advisory Board of Booker T. Washington High School the ability to grant advancement opportunities for students at this top-rated arts magnet school through a variety of initiatives including the disbursement of annual scholarships.  So, like any good event, the booze was flowing to get the pocketbooks to open up! Hurrah for Ruinart!

Art is so subjective that it's hard to say what's "good" and "bad". I tend to like art with a sense of humor. Here were a few pieces that stuck out as objects I'd love to have hanging in my house:

I hope you made it out to this fantastic event.  If not, mark your calendar now for 2012! But wear comfortable shoes! After wandering those concrete floors in f.i.g. for 3 hours, my feet were killing me!
