Social Snippets: Weekend of October 21

From the Dallas Opera's Gala to St. Jude's soiree at Cowboy Stadium to Lisa Garza's wedding - this weekend had the Dallas social set sprinting from one hot event to the next.  Here's a bit of the buzz I saw on Facebook and Twitter:

Liz and Scott Kimple with Khanh Nguyen
Five designers were chosen to design a gown for The Dallas Opera's First Night of Tragic Obsessions held Friday, October 21.

Each designed a glorious gown inspired by one of the operas of the season—and by the divas who have captured their imaginations!

Liz Kimple was dressed in a Nha Khanh custom gown for the evening. This special gown was designed and mostly hand-constructed by Khanh Nguyen inspired by Lucia di Lammermoor.

Geoffrey Henning and D'Andra Simmons
Another show stopper was stunner D'Andra Simmons in a creation by designer Geoffrey Henning whose theme was "Tragic Obsessions".

This event focused on the seductive power of art married to contemporary design in each of the four mainstage operas that comprise the company’s third season in the Winspear Opera House: Lucia di Lammermoor, Tristan & Isolde, La traviata and The Magic Flute.  These gowns will be on display in the lobby at the Winsper Opera House throughout the opera season.

Mauricio Gomez, Melissa Poe & Darren Martin
Across town, reality TV star Melissa Poe of Big Rich Texas celebrated her birthday with friends at Glass Lounge.  The night was billed as a "Quadruple Birthday Party" for Melissa as well as friends, Melissa Martin, Chris Jones and Mauricio Gomez.

Matt Nordgren
"Lead with a purpose. RUN for a purpose!" is what Matt Nordgren & The Leadership Foundation proposed when they partnered with The Uptown Five Mile to create a one-of-a-kind VIP experience and help raise money for empowering underprivileged youth through sports and education.

The Most Eligible Dallas star posted this photo to Facebook on Saturday morning after the race saying, "Completed the Uptown Dallas 13.1 series race 5 mile portion that benefits www.TheLeadershipFoundation.org . What a blast."

Amy Vanderoef and Victoria Snee
Saturday night found Amy Vanderoef and Victoria Snee at an Evening Under the Star Party benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Held on the field of the Cowboys Stadium with music performed by the one and only Craig Morgan, the annual event hosted by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital featured cocktails, dinner and entertainment. Throughout the evening, guests also had the opportunity to bid on exclusive items during a live and silent auction.

Patti LaBelle performed at Two xTwo   |   Anna-Sophia Van Zweden and Mark Trevino

The 13th annual Two x Two benefit dinner and art auction that jointly benefits amfAR and the Dallas Museum of Art was held Saturday night.  Since its inception, TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art has raised over $29 million in support of amfAR’s essential AIDS research and the Contemporary Art Acquisitions Fund at the Dallas Museum of Art.  The black-tie gala dinner featured a live and silent auction of significant contemporary art and unique luxury items. Ana Pettus snapped this photo of Patti LaBelle's performance while enjoying the event with pals Anna Sophia Van Zweden, D'Andra Simmons and Jay Alexander from America's Next Top Model. Fab!

Christopher Wynn tweeted live from the auction that "A Day with President Bill Clinton" went for $100,000 at auction! A few minutes later, he tweets, "Sorry, Bill. Mark Grotjahn oil-on-cardboard mounted on linen goes for $1 million." Yowza!

Mr. and Mrs. Travis Selcer
Congrats to one of favorite reality TV star divas, Lisa Garza. The Food Network star got herself hitched on Saturday to Travis Selcer, who I have had the pleasure of meeting and he's just a swell guy.

Best wishes for your new life together!

Whew! I hope you got a good Sunday afternoon nap in... because it's a new week and there are more luncheons, trunk shows and galas to attend! Man, I love this town!

Have a great week and I'll see you on the scene!
