Get Out & About for the Week of December 2, 2012

Works from Dale Chihuly at the Dallas Arboretum

The weather has been AMAZING for this time of year, so take advantage of it and get outside while the gettin’s good! You have until the end of the year to visit one of my favorite sites in Dallas - the Dallas Arboretum - and view dramatic life-sized glass sculptures from artist Dale Chihuly in more than 15 locations throughout the 66-acre Dallas Arboretum. If you’re looking for an evening experience, grab a date and attend Chihuly Nights where you can enjoy the Chihuly exhibition from 6-10pm in the evening glow of moonlight and tree lights with the artist’s magnificently lit sculptures. Tickets start at $9 and I recommend buying them online prior to your visit. The Arboretum is at 8525 Garland Road, and you can call 214-515-6500 or visit to purchase tickets in advance and glean more details.

Looking like it’s been ripped from the pages of a Harlequin romance novel, the newest production of Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical, starring American Idol favorite Constantine Marolulis and Canadian R&B superstar Deborah Cox, is making a stop in town before it returns to Broadway.

Presented by AT&T Performing Arts Center, Jekyll & Hyde takes to the big stage Dec. 4 through the 16th at the Winspear Opera House. Tickets are $30 to $150. Call 214-880-0202 or visit

One of my favorite things about the holidays is that there are lots of fun “girly” activities. Things that only your best gal pal would appreciate like high teas and champagne and chocolate parties. So, this week, grab your BFF and check out the stately Alexander Mansion. Built in 1904 it’s one of the city’s oldest residences, and it will be dressed in its holiday best for the annual “Holiday Home Tour, Boutique & Holiday Café” December 6-9 presented by The Dallas Woman’s Forum.

Guests will enjoy spectacular rooms bedecked in holiday finery. There will be music performances, photo opportunities with Santa, a gift boutique with antiques, jewelry, handcrafted home decor, foods and more. Lunch will be served daily in the Holiday Café. The Alexander mansion is located at 4607 Ross Avenue. Tour & Boutique admission is $10 for adults; $5 for children. Reservations for the Holiday Café are $12. Call 214-823-4533 or go to
