Get Out & About for the week of September 2, 2012

September is the biggest month of the year for fashion, so let’s talk shopping!!!

What started in 2009 as a way to kick-start the Fall shopping season in the middle of recession, has since turned into a nation-wide evening of celebration about all things fashionable at FASHION”S NIGHT OUT.

For one-night only, you can experience the hottest fall looks, live music and DJs, in-store special events and promotions, gifts with purchase, one-night-only discounts, dining specials, mini makeovers and more at shopping centers and boutiques all over the Metroplex .

The Galleria will boast a ¼ mile runway show and retailers have partnered with local charities so that a portion of proceeds from sales that night will go to benefit local charities like the North Texas Suicide and Crisis center, Equest and DIFFA. Highland Park Village will feature outdoor runway shows and 7 and 9 pm and shoppers can enter to win a $2000 shopping spree at any of the retailers on site.

I am thrilled to be partnered with NorthPark Center for this amazing night!  I’ll be starting my night at Aveda, where they are offering complimentary blow outs and make up touch ups. You can catch up with me at the runway shows that will be held at 6, 7 and 8PM. I’ll be taking in the latest Fall fashions in the VIP lounge hosted by The Fashionistas.

At Neiman Marcus, FENDI is reissuing six styles of the iconic handbag made famous by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex In The City. Manolo Blahnik will hold a Trunk Show in the Shoe Salon, and on level one men can slip in to the NM smoking lounge and enjoy cigar rolling with City Cigars and scotch tasting, all while chilling to the beats of DJ Spacebar while you view the latest men’s trends.  To see a complete listing of events, download NorthPark Center's FNO brochure here

And the best part… I will be giving away a VIP swag bag worth over $2500 to one lucky shopper! Come out to Northpark Center and show me what fashions you love or take pics of you and your friends shopping and tag Northpark Center on Twitter or Facebook. For every post I see on one of those social channels, you will receive an entry! So, grab some girlfriends and get out to the malls!

Party pic from last year's Celebrity Waiter Luncheon

The week will end with a bang with Dallas’ MOST OUTLANDISH charity luncheon – the Celebrity Waiter Luncheon benefiting Family Gateway. On Friday, September 7, the Ritz Carlton will host this entertaining and lively luncheon where local business, media, political, entertainment and sports personalities will volunteer as celebrity waiters and serve guests for a great cause! Each table sponsor hosts a table of 10 generous guests who come prepared to tip their waiters with wild abandon and bid for the extraordinary and unique auction items dangled in front of them. Waiters seek tips in eccentric ways - pocketing your silverware, withholding your meal, singing, performing and dancing; the antics are endless as waiters go to great lengths to raise the most money during 90 action-packed minutes. An exciting silent and live auction will take place, and all proceeds will benefit Family Gateway. Learn more about this event and purchase your ticket at

On Saturday night, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra will hold their annual gala with a performance by the world-renown cellist, Yo Yo Ma.  After the concert – is when the real party starts! Now, what’s fun about this event is that it really encompasses multi-generations, so it’s so fun to see the blue-haired old ladies out boogying on the dance floor next to a 30-something hottie!

Guests will enjoy nibbles, specialty cocktails, live music and tunes by DJ Lucy Wrubel. Single concert/after-party tickets start at $150/each and you can get more info by calling 214.692.0203 or by visiting

And if that’s all too hoighty-toighty for you, then maybe a beer festival would be more your style! The Untapped Beer Festival which will take place September 8 at the new Trinity Groves and feature indie beer along with a host of indie music including the Givers, The Antlers, Akron/Family, Burning Hotels, David Dondero and Fish Fry Bingo.

This should be one of the first events to take place in this magical place just on the other side of the Calatrava-designed Margaret Hunt-Hill Bridge. VIP tickets are being sold for $60 that will allow beer nerds to gain access to the event one hour before the general public. VIP also allows for in and out access, as opposed to general admission which is a one-time entry for the day which will start at 11am for VIP and last on into the evening and finally wrapping up at 10pm.  General admission tickets are $30 and the doors open at 1pm.
