Collections Fashion Show: Recollected

The luxurious ballroom of the Marriott Quorum set the stage for the Saturday night launch of The Collections Fashion Show Vol. 1 benefiting Children’s Miracle Network.  This little 'ole blog was pleased as pie to be one of the show's sponsors.  Hosted by VH1 Football Wives star, Dawn Neufeld and Jennifer de Soccarz from Fashion Group International Dallas this ambitious show featured up-and-coming designers 12 year old Grant Mower and Status by Sarah Jones.

Erika Oliver, Eric Oliver, Jr., Cathy Vieth and Juan Lerma

Never heard of Grant Mower? This designing prodigy recently won a Terry Costa prom dress design competition against 11 high school- and college-aged competitors. His winning garment will be reproduced and sold at Terry Costa in 2012. Okay, so he had a little help - his winning dress design was constructed with help from Mom, but cut him a little slack... he's twelve! My son is almost eleven and he can't even brush his own hair in the mornings! Jeesh, what a little slacker I'm raising!

I found Grant out in the hallway before the show working on some sort of craft project. It looked like he was making paper fans. I asked him jokingly, "Working on a last minute design for the show?" His eyes lit up, "Yeah! I just thought something cool to put on my dress," he smiled.

And then, out comes this fun-tastic creation down the runway... I'm telling you, this is a kid to watch. I am expecting BIG things from him.

The show kicked of in dramatic fashion with a laser display and a fog machine. They went a little over-board, almost choking out the whole front row.  After that slight misstep, style makers Janet Fresquez, Dan Pritchett, Chanita Foster, Jennifer LeLash and Cathy Vieth settled in to enjoy lots of other eye candy from Uptown Consignment and Lilli London in West Village. Emerging designers like Varela+Brooks and Morgan LaRochelle also took to the runway.

A big standing ovation to Juan Lerma and and Eric Oliver of Amrel Revilo Productions and Jessica Ezeanya of Event Heaven by Nelo for all their hard work and passion.  Be you! Believe! Be Free!

I have to give a shout out to Camille and Connie at Uptown Consignment for letting me come in and play dress up and pick out something fabulous to wear to the show.  It's good to know people. If you a smart shopper (like me) you need to check out this boutique. They have all the best labels at affordable resale prices.  Stop in at 4152 Cole Ave. in Dallas (off Avondale next to Salum) and tell them Cynthia sent you!
