Hippee Dippee Gypsy Chic at Gypsy Wagon

When Carley Seale opened Gypsy Wagon a few years ago, she had no idea she was starting a cultural revolution. She just wanted a place to sell bohemian, country-chic goods. The Gypsy Wagon strives to carry gifts and home items that are handmade, that are produced with recycled or sustainable materials, and that are made by people and companies who care.  I attended a fun "rebranding" party last Thursday at Peggy Sue's BBQ in Snider Plaza. Carley was thrilled to show off her new billboard (pictured above) and talk about the changes they are making.

"We always have gotten great feedback on our home and gift selection. We recently realized that we had an equally fun story to tell with The Gypsy Wagon fashion. Our style is not about trends, but a state of mind. It is for the girl who prefers shopping flea markets to the mall, who understands the empowerment of wearing fringe boots, and who picks wildflowers to put in her hair," says Carley.  "The new website and billboard highlight this lifestyle through stylebooks, videos, and my new blog. Instead of focusing on individual products on the website, which is what most online stores do, we want to showcase our spirit, and invite our audience to join in the fun!"

Owners, Johnny and Carley Seale, are an adorable married couple with two young sons who run the business as a team.  Johnny and I go waaaaaay back to the days when I was at the Dallas Observer. He was in the Production Dept. and would help me create ads for my clients. He is now the creative genius (and a lot more) behind all of the branding for Gypsy Wagon.  D Magazine readers voted them Best Women's Boutique and Best Gift Store in 2012 and Fashion Group International of Dallas has recognized Gypsy Wagon with a Rising Star Award for Retail and I can't think of a better example of an independent retailer to represent Dallas.  The Seales opened a second location in Crested Butte, CO last Summer and plan to split their year between the two stores. The revolution marches on - with a flower in its hair!
