Dallas Marathon Kicks Off 44th Anniversary with a 4.4K Run & Epic 80’s Party

The Dallas Marathon kicked off their 44th anniversary celebration on June 4th (National Running Day) with a 4.4K fun run and after party at White Rock Lake to coincide with the launch of registration season for the 2014 MetroPCS Dallas Marathon, Half Marathon, 5-Person Relay, SMU Cox Corporate Relay Challenge presented by Behringer and Cigna Mayor’s Race 5K Presented by Oncor. In addition to the 4.4K fun run, this event offered runners a post-race party with free beer, food trucks, an 80s-themed costume contest and live music from the band Live 80, a popular 80s cover band.

New to Dallas, Ashley is quickly discovering that
BIG things happen in Dallas
I sent my assistant, Ashley Powell, out to participate in this event and report back. Ashley is new to Dallas and an avid runner, making her the perfect person to give OSC readers an inside look at this organization.

"The Dallas Marathon team sure knows how to put on a party. Being an avid runner and race participant, I’ve attended many race events before and I can safely say that this particular pre-race event rivaled many of the actual post-race parties I have attended for 10ks and half marathons. Which leads me to only one conclusion: The main event (the Dallas Marathon) will be a very well executed race and I sincerely look forward to participating," says Powell.

"Even though I am new to Dallas, I plan on continuing to pursue my goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon and will use the Dallas Marathon as my qualifying course. This kick-off race event was so much fun, making me that much more motivated and excited to run the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon this Fall!"
