Fashion is wearable art, a form of self-expression like none other so it's no surprise that the city's style-setters recently flocked to First Sight Fashion Show & Luncheon chaired by Ellen and Don Winspear for a fabulous presentation by Versace at NorthPark Center. Honorary Chairs were Joyce and Harvey Mitchell, and Luncheon Chairs were Tiffany Divis, Kara Goss, and Rhonda Marcus. Approximately 230 guests filled the C. Vincent Prothro Lobby in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House. The fashion show began with a flurry of fantastic costumes from past Dallas Opera productions to add an air of authenticity and artistry to the event. The designers represented were Peter J. Hall (Rodelinda, Aida, Otello), Allen Charles Klein (La vida breve), and Nicolas Dvigubsky (Boris Godunov). Guests marveled at the creativity, detail, luscious fabrics, and adornments of the pieces enhanced by the beautiful set designed by Larry Leathers. The show continued with Italian luxury brand VERSACE presenting a variety of looks that ranged from casual, to career and evening in a variety of beautiful fabrics including wool, leather, jersey, silk, viscose, and suede. Judging by the enthusiastic applause, Fashion Show Producer Rhonda Sargent Chambers had another successful “turn on the runway.”

After the show guests were seated in a lovely dining area with decor designed by Chair Ellen Winspear. Most eye-catching were the lush, bright yellow floral arrangements featuring yellow roses and calla lilies, and white hydrangeas. Culinary master Wolfgang Puck created a special menu for the day inspired by four of The Dallas Opera’s productions this season. A surprise performance by one of the Moby-Dick cast, Andrew Bidlack, and pianist Christopher Devlin was a charming addition to the operatic ambiance. There were many notable guests including Holly Mayer, Lisa Genecov, Harriet Gibbs, Jolie Humphrey, Rachel Roberts, Natalie Lo, Caitlyn Welch, Stacey McCord, Anne Stodghill, Lisa Cooley, Roxanne Phillips, Dianne LaRoe, Maile Shea, Heather Alexander, Sara Martineau, Joyce Mitchell, Diane Brierley, Cindy Feld, Lynn Mock, Nancy Nasher, Joyce Goss, Lynn McBee, Myrna Schlegel, Matrice Ellis-Kirk, Martha Allday, Jennifer Cerny, Kathryn Hall, Betty Suellentrop, D’Andra Simmons, Marnie Wildenthal, and Kaki Hopkins. This kick-off event for the opening of the 2016-2017 Season, 60 year celebration, Opening Weekend Sponsor was The Eugene McDermott Foundation. I can't think of a lovelier way to officially start The Dallas Opera’s 60th Season! For more information on the new season, visit
