Shop Local/Shop Smart: Everyday by Leonard Volk

Oh So Cynthia is about showcasing the city of Dallas and what makes it a fabulous place to live. Although I love the luxe life, I'm a girl with champagne tastes on a soda-pop budget, so I am all about smart shopping. Throughout the holiday season, I will be bringing you a series of posts that will combine both of these concepts called Shop Local/Shop Smart, bringing you great gift ideas for under $200 from local designers and retailers.

We all know that you get better by watching and learning from the best.  Do you know an amateur photographer? Today's feature is a great book of tips and tricks from one of the best local photographers our city has:

Everyday by Leonard Volk

Leonard Volk with daughter, Alison
Retired architect, Leonard Volk, bought his first camera - a Leica IIIc - in 1950.  Today, Volk has compiled more than sixty years of selected photographs and essays into his latest project as an author, Everyday ($60).

Everyday encompasses a collection of works by Volk ranging from his time spent in Europe to his passion for architectural design in Dallas, Texas.  “I believe a photographer should seek epiphanies, seek to find connections in the great continuum that have significance, and that move us. Although this sounds grandiose, a small insight may delight.”
