Twitter Titter From Deion Sanders, Troy Aikman, Jane Aldridge and more

If you're not on Twitter, you should be. People tweet the darndest things... And your chances of interaction with a celebrity are dramatically higher on Twitter than any other social platform. Just sayin'. Here are some tweets that had me chuckling this week from some of our city's famous faces:

Deion Sanders shows that it's not just women who over-pack when traveling.

Scenes from the DSO Gala 2012

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra held their annual Gala on Saturday, September 8 at the Morton Meyerson Center. Let me begin by saying that I think this is one of the best marketed events in town because there are a couple of different ways to buy into the event, making it affordable for a lot of people - thus exposing the DSO to a new audience, which is crucial for the arts.  People could buy tickets for the entire evening (gala/seated dinner, concert, After-Party) or just the concert and After-Party.

Courtney Kerr, Steve Kemble and Rhonda Sargent Chambers

Shona Gilbert, LeeAnne Locken, Ashley Burghardt and FOX 4's Fiona Gorostiza
strut their stuff in the fashion presentation
Hamilton Sneed, LeeAnne Locken, Parris Rigby, HGTV's Hilary Younger and CW33's Danielle Vollmar

Tootsies was the site of the Celebrity Waiter Luncheon Countdown Cocktail Party held on Wednesday, August 22nd. This fun event offered guests a fashion presentation featuring Dallas celebrities and media personalities who will appearing as Celebrity Waiters, as well as complimentary cocktails and appetizers.

Maggie Kipp and Shay Geyer are co-chairing this year's Celebrity Waiter Luncheon benefiting Family Gateway. Not only is this event the most fun you will ever have at a charity event, they raised over $100,000 at last year's event and plan to double that goal this year.  If you want a seat to the best luncheon in town, you'd better act quick. I am being told that there are only about 4 tables left. Click here for more information or to purchase a table or individual tickets.

Lone Star Park celebrates the Kentucky Derby (and my Birthday!)

"Don't miss the greatest two minutes in sports!" Lone Star Park's website proclaimed in anticipation of the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby.   Lone Star Park celebrated the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the Triple Crown, on Saturday May 5. The crowds arrived early in the afternoon for live racing and the Kentucky Derby simulcast occurred at approximately 5:24 p.m.  Fox 4's Fiona Gorostiza kicked off the day by performing the National Anthem.  Guests also enjoyed live music featuring the Roof Raisers on the Courtyard Stage.

The Top 10 Finalists

The big excitement of the day (outside of the horses) was the Kentucky Derby Hat Contest.  Because of my experience with over-the-top hats, I was asked to participate as a judge, along with Jody Dean from KVIL/103.7 Lite FM and Steve Noviello from Fox 4 News. The competition was fierce and we were tasked to hand out prizes for "Most Stylish" and "Most Creative" with the winner's taking home a $500 prize.  There were at least 100 entries, so we had a LOT of amazing chapeaus to select from. We decided to just pick out our 10 favorites and then pick the 2 winners from that pool.  I loved that we had a handful of male entries!

The man in the photo below (yellow hat with red roses around his neck) was our winner for "Most Creative". His hat was a Kentucky Derby-themed creation and it had a clear plastic tube running through it. When he blew into the tube, confetti shot out of the top. It was so cool and very creative. How could we not pick this guy!?  The woman in the first photo on this post wearing the lavender polka-dot dress and a humungous purple hat was our pick for "Most Stylish".

On top of the Kentucky Derby celebration, it was also Cinco de Mayo and my birthday! So much to celebrate!  Thanks to the marketing and PR folks at Lone Star Park who really went out of their way to make it a super-fun day for me and my family. The best part was when they gave me a big 'ole shout out on the Jumbotron - and re-ran it about 25 times throughout the day. That was so cool! It didn't hurt that Moet de Chandon champagne was one of the sponsors and I got to sip on some delicious bubbles all day. Whoo hoo!

Mockingbird Station Answers The Question Of What To Wear

A stylish set gathered at Vapiano in Mockingbird Station Thursday Night for a What To Wear Fashion Show.  The evening was hosted by none other than moi, Cynthia Smoot.  I had hand-picked a super-stylish and socially savvy panel of trend-setters to help me talk about latest fashion trends. Joining me were Courtney Kerr from Bravo TV's Most Eligible Dallas, Fiona Gorostiza from Fox 4 News, Shannon Yoachum of LoLo Magazine and Sean Charles from Sean In The City.

Guests enjoyed champagne and bellinis, bites courtesy of Vapiano and Trailercakes, music by DJ Joe Vega, amazing swag bags, and more, while scoping out new winter/spring looks by Station retailers Urban Outfitters, American Apparel, Movida, Ann Taylor LOFT, Francesca’s Collections, Relativity Outdoors and The Shoe Envy.  Attendees were offered the opportunity to enter a $10 raffle for a chance to win special prizes from The Pretty Kitty and PURE Dental. Proceeds from the raffle will go to benefit LOLO editor Lauren Scruggs’ Hope Fund.

While the fashions on the stage were dazzling, it was the star power in the room that had my head spinning. Pilar Sanders, Candace Hickey from We TV's Texas Multi Mamas, and Phillip Willis, Ashley Kelly, Taylor Garrett and Levi Crocker from The A List: Dallas had the crowd buzzing with excitement.  And of course, Courtney Kerr is from Bravo TV's Most Eligible Dallas!

Readers of this blog know that I am a huge reality TV fan and over the past year I have talked a LOT about all of the shows that are filming around town - introducing you to the casts and giving you all the offset gossip and news fit to print. It was very rewarding for me to have so many of these celebrities turn out last night to support me.  I was feelin' the love.

But, don't take my word for how fabulous the evening was! Check out what fashion bloggers Anna and Lauren from Mosey! Street Style had to say about the soiree.  My Mother always told me it was better to let others talk about you, than to talk about yourself.

Enter Stage Left: The Pro Artist Group

With an emerging haute fashion scene, many artists look for guidance in their careers, key connections in the industry, and the right places to get their work discovered.  The Pro Artist Group will play an integral part in mentoring artists to increase skill levels, opening artists to a vast network of industry professionals, and frequently hosting events for artists to be discovered.

Fiona Gorostiza, Mina Chang, Cynthia Smoot, LeeAnne Locken and Lisa Petty

A launch party was held on December 3 to celebrate this newly formed collaboration. Pouring rain didn't put a damper on the evening as Fox 4's Fiona Gorostiza, Mina Chang, Cynthia Smoot (that's me!), model/actress (and occasional guest blogger for this site) LeeAnne Locken and DFW Style Daily's Lisa Petty joined a bevvy of fashion and beauty industry insiders to play hostess for a hip soiree at Anderson Studios.  Handsome Marines were on hand to accept new toys for Toys For Tots, a Ferarri was parked inside, a cigar roller was on hand for the gents - heck - there was even a hookah bar in the VIP lounge! Swanky...

The hookah was a big hit. Literally.

Juan Lerma, LeeAnne Locken, Janet and Rick Fresquez and Tyler Kerbyson

Around 10:30 PM, LeeAnne and I left to hit up another party at the Rattlesnake Bar at The Ritz (my favorite people-watching spot). As we were waiting for valet to pull our ride around, a slew of newcomers pulled up, having come from the Crystal Charity Ball at the Anatole a few short blocks away.  This party went on well into the night, and I'm told it ended up with a heaping mountain of toys for the kids.  Hoorah!
