Bravo TV Loves Dallas and Courtney Kerr

Courtney rocks a POC
That's pop of color. Le duh!
Bravo TV announced today that Most Eligible Dallas star Courtney Kerr, is getting her own show called Courtney Loves Dallas.

The press release states, "Breakout star Courtney Kerr of “Most Eligible Dallas” navigates the lively Dallas social scene with her group of sassy, dynamic friends in this docu-series. Juggling her search for the perfect southern gentleman while trying to make a name for herself in the fashion industry with the growing popularity of her fashion blog, Courtney proves that having it all isn't easy."

Courtney told me that the show will follow her journey as she quits her long-time job at Sunglass Hut as a Regional Manager, moves into a new apartment, seeks to launch a career as a fashion blogger and - oh yes - looks for love in Big D.

Helping her navigate her way through life in Dallas will be besties Tori Gonzales and Daylon Pereira. And don't be surprised if yours truly makes an appearance. You know I am really good at weaseling my way into a scene!

Courtney Kerr
Courtney told me exclusively, "I am so humbled that Bravo would choose to develop a show around me. It's thrilling, but frightening at the same time. In an ensemble cast, if something isn't working you can say 'Oh, maybe they didn't like the chemistry between this person and that person. Or maybe a certain storyline wasn't working'. But for my new show, there is nowhere to hide. It's all eyes on me and that is extremely intimidating!"

Courtney also told me that this show was initially slated to be called Courtney Does Dallas, but Courtney's Mother (affectionately known as Mama Kerr) didn't like the connotation that the name gave and thus it was ultimately reworked into a more suitable version.

We all know if Mama ain't happy - ain't nobody happy!

I'm just gonna pat myself on the back for a minute and say that I so called this show with Courtney ages ago.  Courtney will tell you herself that almost every time I see her I would jokingly ask, "So, when are you getting a spin off?" Anyone who watched MED is familiar with her witty quips and lists of what to do and not do in any given situation. She's quick on her feet and easy on the eye. A natural for TV. Personally, I adore Courtney and am thrilled for her success.

There have been rumors and rumblings over the last few months about whether or not Bravo TV would be renewing Most Eligible Dallas.  The ratings were good, but not great for the debut of this new franchise that aired in Fall 2011.  It's been widely reported that Bravo has stated there will be no more Real Housewives franchises, and rumor mill had it that they were putting their eggs in the Most Eligible basket. The plan was to do a Most Eligible in NYC, Chicago and beyond...

I hope Courtney stays on the right side of the tracks...

And it did look that way.  They had production companies working on casting additional shows for NYC and Chicago and they have been in and out of Dallas for the past 6 months casting for new faces for a Season Two here in Dallas. But it looks like they just couldn't come up with a cast or a formula that Bravo was happy with and they decided to scrap the whole concept.  Alas, all indications are that not only is Dallas not being renewed but the entire MED franchise is dead.

Courtney Kerr and me at a recent party for Family Place. We have bonded over our love of fashion and food.  Mainly food.

Shay Geyer & Maggie Kipp are Texans With Character

The Celebrity Waiter Luncheon is no ordinary charity ladies-who-lunch event...

My friend Teresa Frosini called me a couple of days ago and said she was looking for someone to interview for a series she has called Texans with Character on CBS. She wondered if I knew of anyone who might fit the bill.  The problem wasn't "do I know anyone", my problem is that I know a million people who are worthy of being spotlighted! Dallas is full of amazing people doing good works to better our community.

Maggie Kipp and Shay Geyer are co-chairing this year's Celebrity Waiter Luncheon benefiting Family Gateway. Not only is this event the most fun you will ever have at a charity event, they raised over $100,000 at last year's event and plan to double that goal this year. They have already been tapped to co-chair the Dallas Arboretum's Mad Hatter's event next Spring. These two are the new power couple of the Dallas charity scene so they were a no-brainer for this segment and I was happy to connect them to Teresa.

Here's the segment that aired today:

If you want a seat to the best luncheon in town, you'd better act quick. I am being told that there are only about 4 tables left to this year's Celebrity Waiter Luncheon benefiting Family Gateway. Click here for more information or to purchase a table or individual tickets.

PS: Love that I got a little cameo in this piece! Check me out in the ginormous sunglasses at :33 seconds into the segment standing next to Shay! Get an Academic Edge with Varsity Tutors

Most of the Dallas-area will start school on Monday (Can I get a hallelujah!!) and in my house we are already talking about expectations for the new school year. My son is transitioning from Middle School to (gulp) Junior High. The worst years of anyone's life. Lord help me...  Not only is this a challenging time for a child socially, but their bodies are going through major physical changes as they enter puberty and this is the year that grades really start to matter.  There is about to be a lot going on and sometimes you need a helping hand to pull it all together.

With a record breaking number of students entering the college arena it is becoming more and more important to not only have good grades, but be well-rounded showing a good record with social and charitable activities to get into a good school.   Shrinking budgets and expanding class sizes can sometimes leave your child lagging behind and frustrated.  Teachers mean well, but they don't always have the time to slow down and make sure everyone gets it.

Varsity Tutors founder, Chuck Cohen (center), surrounded by his tutors

Parents are then left to pick up the slack and although you try... it can be difficult to assist your kids when it comes to school work. Partially because they don't listen to you and partially because it's been a billion years since I studies this stuff and I can't remember anything!  Fortunately we have great local resources in Dallas that can rally the troops when help is needed. Varsity Tutors is a concept developed five years ago by a 21-year-old student who was willing to bet that his classmates would make effective and affordable learning coaches for high school students.

Varsity Tutors founder Charles Cohn, said, "I realized that my friends would be the perfect tutors — effective communicators, brilliant and fun to be around." So Cohn, a Washington University student at the time, hired five of his college friends and launched Varsity Tutors.  Since then, the company has grown to include tutors nationwide. The company hires professional tutors for its elementary and middle school customers, but Cohn estimates that two-thirds of the company's tutors are in college or graduate school.

Varsity Tutors can come to your home, a library or can do online sessions - whichever is most convenient for you.  Academic tutoring is $55 to $65 per hour and their test prep is $65 to $75 per hour. All of our sessions are 1-on-1 by high caliber tutors and all the lessons are customized to fit the particular needs of each student.

Pat Smith to Consign Clothes for Charity

Pat Smith is a woman who is so beautiful that I totally want to hate her. The only problem, is that she is also one of the sweetest and most genuine people I have ever met. And she has an amazing back story. This is no pampered princess. Smith may have it all (now) but she also works hard to make sure that other women have the opportunity to get what she's got: peace, love and happiness, baby!

Smith will be consigning many of her personal luxury items on August 27, 28 and 29 at The RealReal, the online destination for luxury women’s resale, with proceeds going to her charity “Treasure You” .

Items from the sale will include a full-range of luxury lines including handbags, shoes and apparel from Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Chanel, Roberto Cavalli, Jimmy Choo, and Alexander McQueen just to name a few. Also contributing to the sale is Pat’s husband, NFL legend Emmitt Smith.

Smith, Founder/CEO of Pat Smith Enterprises, Founder/CEO of “Treasure You” and the President of Pat and Emmitt Smith Charities is known for her philanthropy efforts on behalf of women and children in addition to her active involvement in church, civic and community activities. “Treasure You,” a non-profit organization, was created by Smith to mentor, inspire and uplift women to pursue their passions in life despite their circumstances or setbacks.

The 2012 “Treasure You” Girlfriend’s Retreat will be held in Dallas on September 28 – 29. The event, and the organization’s mission is simple: “Treasure You” is all about building a community that supports, inspires and celebrates women in their journey to discover their self-worth. 2012 is an incredibly exciting year for Pat as she has been asked to share her journey on the Women of Faith “Celebrate What Matters” Tour. Pat is currently featured in a seven city fall tour for the organization.

Dallas Chefs Come Together to Help One of Their Own

Big-hearted Chefs rally for a friend at DUO

Restaurant mogul Danny Meyer explains that “hospitality is not what is done to you, but for you.” And there are few events that display the kind of hospitality shown this past weekend at the Sunday Chef Mix at DUO.

When Jackson, Lisa Moore and Tim Lavender of Dallas’s new lifestyle management company FLUENT learned that a friend could use some help, they rallied the culinary troops and organized a magnificent tasting event to raise some money. In the words of Chef Mark McDaniel, “it was a no-brainer” when it came to participating, for the friend in need was Dallas’s beloved Camilo Calderon, Banquet Manager at The Adolphus Hotel and formerly of Stephan Pyles, Samar, and Dish. This remarkable gentleman inherited four beautiful children this month, in addition to his own two, when their mother - his sister - lost her battle with gastric cancer.

Jackson, Garrett Walker, beneficiary Camilo Calderon, Lisa Moore and Tim Lavender

DUO, All Things Culinary’s Tracy Rathbun and Lynae Fearing provided the unique venue, and Dallas Chefs Tim Byres, Katherine Clapner, Joel Harloff, Mark McDaniel, Jeff Moschetti, Scott Tobey, Jon Thompson, Justin Box, Lance Smith, and Ke’o Velasquez all prepared tastings at individual stations, some of them arriving directly from brunch service for what would be their only evening off for the week.

Proceeds from event admission, the silent auction of items from additional Dallas restaurants and chefs, and from items sold at DUO that evening went to help the Calderon family. Glazer’s provided wine for the guests to enjoy during the event.
Camilo Calderon glowed at the event calling it, “Phenomenal”. He proudly pointed out his new charges and choosing to enjoy the many blessings of good friends, family, and the supportive Dallas community surrounding him.

Donations to the family can still be made by contacting Lisa Moore at lisa@fluentdallas.com or 214-459-8009.

This Fall the 80s are alive at the Granada Theater

I am a child of the 80s, so these are my glory years and the music of this era will forever be my anthem. It's great to see the 80s making a pop culture comeback. Walk into any store and you'll see the 80s everywhere: neon colors, strands of pearls, peplums, padded shoulders and harem pants.  80s bands are also still going strong and touring the country.  The Granada Theater is bringing some of the biggest acts from the 80's to town.  Like, oh my God, it will be so rad!

Look Cool Going Back to School: CBS Brings You Galleria Fashions

Who else is ready for school to start Monday!?  Can I get a Hallelujah!!  Teresa Frosini from CBS DFW and the Galleria's Holly Quataro reminded us yesterday that nothing is more important when going back-to-school than looking cool... while staying on a budget.

Check out the adorable super model tween featured in the Forever 21 segment mixing stripes with plaids.  That's my boy! I'm such a proud Mama!!

PS: For the record, he says he would never mix stripes with plaid. Nor would he be caught DEAD in a skinny jean. But hey, when you modeling, you just wear what they give you!

North Texas’ Lisa Whelchel (Blair from The Facts of Life) to Compete on Survivor: Philippines

Well, shut the front door!

Survivor just released the names of the new cast who will appear in the show's 25th (can you believe it!!) season in the Philippines.

Among them, 1980s sitcom star Lisa Whelchel and major league baseball MVP Jeff Kent will join 13 other new players — as well as three returning ones — when Survivor: Philippines premieres on CBS with a special 90-minute episode at 8 p.m. ET on Sept. 19.

Who knew that Lisa Whelchel (aka Blair Warner from The Facts of Life) was living among us all this time? As a child of the 80's I watched Facts of Life and like millions of other gawky teenage girls, totally wished I could be the spoiled and sassy Blair Underwood and attend Eastland boarding school.

Kudos to D Magazine's Jason Heid who totally scooped me on this bit of reality TV news:
"With the announcement of the new cast of TV’s reality-game show Survivor, we learn that Lisa Whelchel, who played the prissy Blair on ’80s sitcom The Facts of Life, will be among those trying to manipulate their way to the $1 million prize in the Phillipines-set season beginning Sept. 19.
Whelchel is listed by CBS as living in Dallas, though my sister-in-law’s family used to live down the street from hers in the Lantana community up in Denton County, and the actress/author/speaker’s website lists her mailing address as a P.O. box in Flower Mound.
In the video above, you’ll get a chance to hear how the 49-year-old is a big fan of Survivor, who campaigned to make the cast, doesn’t plan to lie or cheat her way to the title. I haven’t watched this show since its first season back in 2000, but that doesn’t seem like the soundest strategy. Unless her strategy is to pretend like she’s going to employ a dumb strategy, and then maybe it’s brilliant."

Hyatt Lost Pines: A Great Place to Get Lost If Only for a Weekend

On Day 3 of our recent Austin adventure, after our excursion to the magnificent Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve, we headed for our last stop - Hyatt Lost Pines Resort and Spa.

Surrounded by wilderness, the 405-acre Hyatt Lost Pines Resort & Spa is located 13 miles from historic Bastrop and within 27 miles of Austin attractions such as Barton Springs Pool, the University of Texas, the State Capitol, and South Congress Avenue.

Upon our arrival, we walked in to find a lovely bottle of wine and a fruit and cheese tray as a welcome gift. The kids room had a basket of cookies, chips and other snacks. That was a great way to kick start our visit!

We quickly changed into our swim suits and headed down to what turned out to be our favorite part of the property - the Crooked River Water Park, which includes a lazy river, a 2-story waterside, cabana with waiter service offering food and beverages and an adults-only pool (holla!).

The good news is that from the moment you check in, you’ll find an incredible host of things to do in and around the resort. They offer horseback riding, archery, skeet shooting, kayaking, zip-lining, horse camp, rafting trips, etc.  The bad news is that most of these awesome amenities are at an extra surcharge. And I do mean extra, as in the cheapest activity is around $45 and it goes up from there. If you have several kids or are looking to do something fun as a family, it could get expensive fast.

However, if you are like me (cheap) you will be happy to know that there are plenty of free activities to fill your time. We had a great time hiking the nature trails around the property, playing horseshoes and washers, and at night they set up an outdoor movie screen and show family films (we saw Rio) and let you make your own 'Smores on outdoor fire pits.

T-Bone and Rib Eye

We got up on Sunday morning and my husband said, "Honey! Come look at this!!" There were 2 cowboys riding these huge longhorn steers outside of our room. When we went down for breakfast, we saw them out in the courtyard. There names are T-Bone and Rib Eye and the kids can climb up on them and have their photo taken.  Our boys couldn't get out there fast enough to flash their "Hook 'Em Horns" sign for a pic.

I'm seriously considering trying to rally my family to go to Lost Pines for Thanksgiving.  24 hours was not near enough time to enjoy this paradise. If you are looking for a getaway that offers lots of outdoor fun for the entire family, I give the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort & Spa two thumbs up.

Piermarini Boutique Opens in Snider Plaza

Owner, John Piermarini

Piermarini Boutique has decided to trade the quaint Uptown cottage they've occupied for the past 2 years and make the move to Snider Plaza in tony Park Cities.  (The lure of SMU girls with little budgetary constraint and the ladies of Highland Park is an irresistible draw)  I'm always happy to get a new neighbor, so I swung by Friday afternoon to check out  the new digs and welcome John to Park Cities.  I met John earlier this year when I profiled him for my Dallas Dweller series.  He's a great guy with an infectious smile and incredible style.

Piermarini Boutique features international, local and new designers that are off the beaten path to mainstream fashion avenues, with each store item being hand-picked by John himself. Maintaining an heir of exclusivity, Piermarini Boutique showcases jewelry and apparel designs under $500, only orders one item in each size and has a strict no re-order policy.

The new space doesn't quite have the charm of their old cottage in Uptown, but John has tried to give the space as much personality as he could by ripping up the flooring to leave exposed concrete floors and tearing out the sheet rock to highlight the original red brick walls of the building.  The trade off is that the new store has lots of natural light and is much more open, allowing shoppers to more easily browse the goods (men's on the left, women's on the right).

John prides himself on finding lines that no other store in Dallas carries so browsing the racks is always a treat.  The real secret? Ask him to show you what's in the back room. They have racks of clothing back there waiting for their turn on the main floor. It's your best chance to snag a coveted piece in your size sometimes weeks before it goes out for public view.  You can thank me later...

Piermarini Boutique is located at 6827 Snider Plaza, Dallas, Texas 75205

Discover One of Texas Best Kept Secrets: Hamilton Pool

A few weeks ago, this photo popped up on my Facebook Wall from a Fan Page I follow called I Love Texas.  The caption read, "Lake Hamilton Pool. In case you're wondering where this is, it's 23 miles west of Austin off of Highway 71." I had never heard of this place, but it looked incredible and since we were going to Austin anyway... we decided to add this to our list of activities for the weekend. Boy, am I glad we did.

Hamilton Pool Nature Preserve is managed as a natural area (preserve) with emphasis on habitat protection and restoration, environmental education for public and private groups, and ongoing research; it offers limited, day-use only, with recreational opportunities such as picnicking, hiking, swimming and nature study.  The preserve's pool and grotto were formed when the dome of an underground river collapsed due to massive erosion thousands of years ago.  There is a 45 foot water fall creating a great swimming hole. You can also hike some of the nature trails along the creek.

The parking lot is sized for 75 cars, and when all spaces are taken, cars are held up at the gate until a space opens. We got there at 11:30am and were told it could be up to a 2-hour wait. We decided to stick it out and it took about 50 minutes before we made it into the parking lot.  It is a 1/4 mile hike from the parking lot to the pool.  You wind through a magical forest next to a river bed with fish and frogs dancing through it. It's a beautiful trek and the hike was almost as much fun as getting to the pool.

I was surprised that the swimming hole was so cold, but on a 100 degree day it felt divine! You can sit out in the sun on the beach, but if you want shade there are tons of nooks and spaces in the cave area to spread out and stay cool. We had a fabulous afternoon here and I would definitely go back!  A few words of advice: take floaties or noodles so the kids (or you) have something to float or play on. Our kids got bored of just swimming around after a while, but I easily diverted their attention to exploring the cave and wandering the nature trails.

Hours of operation
  • 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
  • There is an entrance fee of $10 per car.
  • $3 per pedestrian if you arrive via motorcycle or bicycle.
  • Travis County honors the Federal Golden Age Passport and the Senior Citizen State Pass.
Drinking water or concessions are not available in the preserve; chemical toilets are provided. Pets are not allowed, even on leashes. Neither are visitors allowed to leave pets in cars while they hike and visit the water fall.

Hamilton Pool Preserve is located about 30 miles west of Austin on FM 3238. From SH 71/U.S. 290 junction southwest of Austin, take SH 71 about 81/2miles to FM 3238 (Hamilton Pool Road), turn left and travel about 13 miles to the preserve. The entrance to the 232-acre preserve is on the right.  Updated information is posted at the entrance booth and provided on the park's telephone recorder message(512-264-2740).  For more info., visit http://www.texasoutside.com/hamiltonpool.htm

Happy Birthday to Madonna

Happy Birthday to Madonna Veronica Louise Ciccone who turns 54 today. According to Wikipedia, she has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and is recognized as the world's top-selling female recording artist of all time by Guinness World Records. Considered to be one of the "25 Most Powerful Women of the Past Century" by Time for being an influential figure in contemporary music, she is known for continuously reinventing both her music and image, and for retaining a standard of autonomy within the recording industry. Critics have praised her diverse musical productions which have also served as a lightning rod for controversy.

Madonna burst onto the national scene around 1984, when I was a Junior in high school. Yes, I am THAT old! I spent my 18th birthday at the Bronco Bowl in Dallas at her debut Like a Virgin Tour. I still have the one Lucky Star dangle earring and black rubber bracelets I bought that night.  Madonna has said of herself, "I know that I'm not the best singer and I know that I'm not the best dancer. But, I can fucking push people's buttons and be as provocative as I want. (My) goal is to break useless taboos."

She made an indelible impression on this small town girl with big city dreams and I have remained a fan since the first time I heard her music and saw her rolling around on that gondola in her infamous MTV video for Like a Virgin.

My favorite Madonna song is Dress You Up. What's yours?

Rise n°1 Celebrates Julia Child's 100th Birthday in Style

Yesterday, Rise n°1 celebrated the 100th birthday of Julia Child - the American chef who made French cuisine accessible and adventurous for the everyday cook.

Reservations were required in advance, but guests were asked to "come dressed respectfully as Julia and (in return) enjoy a Julia inspired lunch" courtesy of Rise n°1 from 11am to 2pm on Julia's birthday, August 15.

My friend, Bev Garvin, was one of the first to see the tweet announcing this promotion and respond snagging our party a coveted 12:30PM spot.

I donned my best 60s housewives-inspired dress and a strand of pearls and headed over to enjoy a delicious 3-course lunch. It was awesome to see what everyone was wearing - even men got into the spirit of the day!

Julia taught us that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn how to fix what went wrong.  Cooking can be - and should be- fun!   We have her to thank (or to blame) for the Food Network and "Top Chef," as well as for the fact that every person who graduates from culinary school now harbors the secret conviction that she will wind up a celebrity chef.  There has never been, nor will there likely ever be another spirit like Julia Child. It was lovely to see her remembered with such reverence and fondness today.   Thank you to Rise n°1 for hosting such a lovely event. I thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to come back!

Rise n°1  is located in Inwood Village at 5360 West Lovers Lane, Suite 220, Dallas, TX 75209.

Audra Janak launches debut Handbag Collection

Meet Audra Janak. A Dallas handbag designer who prefers to focus on luxurious materials and clean lines in her American made products.

For Fall Winter 2012, Janak presents a collection that is contemporary yet sophisticated, bold yet simple. The silhouettes of each handbag are strong in their architectural lines but softened by the supple texture of the full-grain European leathers from which they are made.

Her debut collection is restrained, elegant and modern. Each bag was created to serve a variety of functions, and to be the go-to handbag that every woman needs in her demanding day. Save the Date: KOOZA from Cirque du Soleil

Opening in Dallas on September 19, KOOZA is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil that combines two circus traditions - acrobatic performance and the art of clowning.

The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendor and fragility, presented in a colorful mélange that emphasizes bold slapstick humor.

The name of KOOZA is inspired by the Sanskrit work “Koza,” which means “box,” “chest” or “treasure,” and was chosen because one of the underlying concepts of the production is the idea of a “circus in a box”.

KOOZA includes 10 acts that will keep you at the edge of your seat the whole time - including the Wheel of Death performed for the 1st time under a Cirque du Soleil big top.

The white Big Top will be set for the first time in Lot E at 500 Memorial Drive beneath Reunion Tower. KOOZA opens Wednesday, September 19th for a limited engagement. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.cirquedusoleil.com/en/shows/kooza/tickets/dallas.aspx

Based on real-life events, One Heart tells the amazing story of a 2008 high school football game between Grapevine Faith School and the Gainesville State School, a maximum-security juvenile facility. The movie is being produced by Eterné Films in association with Birchwood Pictures.

Going Batty at Barton Creek in Austin

Austin provides those of us living in Big D with the perfect weekend getaway. It’s a 3-hour drive straight down I-35 and offers great restaurants, amazing outdoor activities, a wide variety of live music clubs, funky boutiques and a heaping dose of Austin “weirdness” that is a nice change of pace from the fast-paced sophistication that is the norm in Dallas.  This past weekend I was invited down to experience some of the best things to do and chew that the city has to offer. My first stop was Barton Creek Resort & Spa.

Barton Creek is a fabulous hotel and like its name suggests, they specialize in a great golf experience and spa facilities.  But as the Mother of a tween, I am always on the lookout for cool places that offer a wide variety of activities that won't break the bank. On that note, Barton Creek more than delivers.  There are plenty of free family activities: The hotel has a beautifully pool landscaped with natural limestone waterfalls and fauna. Play water basketball or volleyball, enjoy a life-size game of chess or just lounge poolside and take in the sun. In the mood for a stroll? Take a hike on the Nature Trail which winds about ½ a mile around the property. Want something a bit more active? Check out some clubs and take on the Resort’s Miniature Golf Course for some good ‘ole fashioned family fun. Purchase a s’mores kit in the hotel coffee shop or pool cabana, then join the concierge on Friday and Saturdays from 5-6PM to make Summer’s yummiest outdoor dessert.  Whew! That enough for you? Well, there's MORE!

Want to stay inside where the temperature is bit cooler? Then check out the Summer Family Activity Room where you’ll find ping pong, Foosball and a wide variety of board games. Barton Creek also hosts Family Movies where you can cuddle up with the kids and enjoy family flicks in the Forum. Also available to guests of all ages is an 11,000 square foot fitness center that includes group classes, personal training, free weights, weight machines, punching bags, outdoor running and stretching areas and an indoor lap pool.

We took advantage of Barton Creek's "Batty in Austin" package.  Every evening in August, hundreds of people gather at sunset to watch 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge for their nightly feeding.

Not only did this package garner us a great spacious room and a breakfast buffet fit for a King. It also provided us with shuttle service to the Congress Street bridge for an easy in/easy out experience, a disposable camera (which the kids loved) and these AWESOME bat glasses that I am modeling in the photo to your left.

You could hear their high-pitched chatter as you walk up to the bridge. They are hungry and talking to each other about where to go and find some grub. We picked a grassy spot on the hill beneath the bridge and it wasn’t 10 minutes before they started to fly out. Much like moths around a flame, you can see them swarm out in large groups. It was a fun sight to see and something to check off the list.

The best thing about Barton Creek is that it provides you with a beautiful resort setting that is just minutes from all of the dining and entertainment options Austin provides. This gives you lots of choices about how to structure your weekend. Or not!

The resort features 312 spacious and beautifully appointed guest rooms, a newly renovated full-service Three Springs Spa and superior dining experiences in its Hill Country Dining Room and 8212 Wine Bar & Grill.  Located in the heart of Texas Hill Country, Austin's award-winning Barton Creek boasts four nationally acclaimed championship courses as well as the state's only Callaway Performance Center.  For more information on Barton Creek Resort & Spa, call 1-800-336-6158 or visit bartoncreek.com.

Thank you to Barton Creek Resort & Spa for hosting my visit. The product selections, descriptions, and opinions in this post are 100% my own. Interested in a sponsored post or product review? Contact me for rates and details.

Titanic Exhibition Set to Sail at the Ft. Worth Museum of Science & History

On April 15, 1912, Titanic, the world’s largest ship, sank after colliding with an iceberg claiming more than 1,500 lives and subsequently altering the world’s confidence in modern technology. 100 years later, the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History will pay tribute to the tragedy which continues to resonate through Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition, where more than 250 legendary artifacts conserved from the Ship’s debris field are showcased offering visitors a poignant look at this iconic Ship and its passengers.  Indulge your inner "Rose" and experience the Centennial Anniversary of the maiden voyage of Titanic than through the authentic artifacts that have been recovered from the wreck site that can only be seen in Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition.

The exhibition has been designed with a focus on the legendary RMS Titanic’s compelling human stories as best told through 250 authentic artifacts and extensive room re-creations. Perfume from a maker who was traveling to New York to sell his samples, china etched with the logo of the elite White Star Line, even a 26-gem bracelet that has the name “Amy” in script that may have been left behind by one of the wealthy first-class passengers -- these and many other authentic objects offer haunting, emotional connections to lives abruptly ended or forever altered.

You will be drawn back in time to 1912 upon entrance, as you receive a replica boarding pass of an actual passenger on board Titanic. You will then begin a chronological journey through the life of Titanic, moving through the Ship’s construction, to life on board, to the ill-fated sinking and amazing artifact rescue efforts. Be prepared to marvel at the re-created first class cabin and third class cabin/hallway, and press their palms against an iceberg while learning of countless stories of heroism and humanity. In the “Memorial Gallery” guests will take their boarding pass to the memorial wall and discover whether their passenger and traveling companions survived or perished.

WHEN:
