Pigskin Finale

What a great day for football! It was our last game of the season and we didn't win the game today but the boys gave it a great effort.

Little Man got taken down by some kid and got his knee all scraped up. He was so mad. He said he couldn't wait for next year so he could tackle that kid...

Boy Battle Scars

There is just never a dull moment at my house.

Case in point: I am at work. 10:45 am: The school nurse calls and says, "Your son bumped heads with another boy in PE and he's got a pretty bad gash. You might want to come up here."

When I get to the school to pick him up. I see a huge open wound - on his face! Oh yeah, we are heading for the Emergency Room.

He had to get 5 shots all around the gash to numb it. Then they gave him 4 stitches. I'm not sure what was worse, the shots or the stitches. But he was quite the trooper. Never cried. He even went back to school afterwards. Had to show off his battle scars.

He says that it's okay, because he's going to be a Star Wars Clone Trooper for Halloween and he has a helmet - so you won't see it. Yep, never a dull moment.

Mooooooooose!

This week, Little Man's team played a third-grade football team coached by former Dallas Cowboys player, Daryl Johnston.
Why is it that as (some) men age they just get better looking. And women just get... old. Here is a shining example of the Cary Grant/George Clooney syndrome of a man just getting better looking with age.

The moms on our team all came dressed so much nicer than usual. And wearing lipstick.

By the way, our team won. And our coach is not an ex-professional football player. But it was a nail-biter. They fought hard. It would have been a great game to watch if I hadn't been so busy looking elsewhere...
I'm just sayin'!

Star Wars. The saga continues.

I have a clear memory (which is saying a lot for me) of going to the Rialto Theater in Downtown Denison in 1977 with my little brother to see Star Wars.

I still remember being astounded by the visual effects and drawn into the story of these characters. My brother and I had many a light saver battle with crude glow-in-the-dark swords. He was Han Solo or Luke Skywalker. I, of course, was Princess Leia. Our weapons weren't nearly as cool as today's models with their sound effects and retractable blades.

With George Lucas' release of the new animated Clone Wars movie this summer, and subsequent weekly cartoon series, he has ensured that the legend and legacy of Star Wars lives on in the next generation. And made himself another billion dollars in the process. The man's a genius!

Little Man is shown here in his new Clone Wars helmet. His buddy is Darth Vader.

May the force be with you.

Paging Dr. Smoot

Little Man drew this after he broke his arm and was going to the Orthopedic Surgeon every week.

When Little Man grows up he wants to be a Doctor.
What are qualities in a good doctor?

Smart, helpful, caring, helping, working, happy, loved, confused, disturbed, orthopedist.

Okay...

Heisman Awe

When Randy found out that Venus had Roger Staubach's Heisman trophy at her house, he rushed over there with Little Man to see it.

Little Man said, "What's a Heisman?".

Once it was explained... he was suitably impressed and excited to see it.
Rub the Buddha...

And yes, Mother, I know. The boy needs a haircut.
