Recreate NYFW SS '20 Hair Trends from TRESemmé

TRESemmé created head-turning looks this season for brands such as Rebecca Minkoff, Christian Siriano, Oscar de la Renta, Alice and Oliva, and Chromat. See below for "How To" instructions on how to recreate my favorite looks from the NYFW SS’ 20 runways from TRESemmé Global StylistsJustine Marjan and Odile Gilbert.

THE “GIGI BRAID” FROM CHRISTIAN SIRIANO

Stylist Tip: “This look is chic yet playful. The secret is not tying the ponytail too high on the head, and using a texturizing mousse to prep the hair. My favorite is TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Mousse, which keeps everything in place but with movement so that it feels effortless and natural.” – Odile Gilbert, TRESemmé Global Stylist

Step 1: Prep the hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner for a smooth and sleek base.
Step 2: Spritz with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Spray and brush through.
Step 3: Add volume with TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Mousse at the roots of the hair.
Step 4: Blow dry with the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional edition, turning the head upside down for added texture.
Step 5: Using an elastic band, fasten a ponytail three quarters of the way up the head.
Step 6: Twist the hair into a loose braid without pulling too tightly to keep the texture and body.
Step 7: Fasten the end with another elastic and lock in the look with TRESemmé Compressed Micro Mist Hair Spray Level 1: Texture.
TRESEMMÉ PRODUCTS USED: TRES Two Extra Hold Mousse, Compressed Micro Mist Hairspray Hold Level 1: Texture, Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Spray, Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner

Hello! These were my glory years and I love to relive them, even if it’s for just a few hours whenever I can. Blushington has studios in Dallas, New York and Los Angeles. FUN FACT: I got the Lucky Star earring I am wearing on May 4, 1985 at Madonna's "Like A Virgin" concert in Dallas. I can't believe that 30+ years later I haven't lost or broken it. It's one of my prized possessions because it brings back so many fun memories for me. I love pulling it out for occasions like this one!

Best Summer Beauty Tips That Take Less Than 5 Minutes Each

To me, Summer is all about relaxed ease, so the no-makeup makeup look is what I strive for. As we head into the hot Texas summer, I thought I would share five beauty tips to help you make the most of the season. The beautiful thing is that each of these tips takes less than 5 minutes! Try them out and let me know which of them you enjoy most!

BeautyRX Peel: Sometimes you need more than an exfoliation product to remove the damage that all of that sun worship has produced. Blushington has partnered with famous NYC dermatologist, Dr. Neal Schultz, to bring you his world-famous products at a fraction of what you'd pay in his fancy-pants Big Apple offices. This peel is simple, easy, and completed in just TWO minutes. First, skin is thoroughly cleansed, and then the pH-balanced and buffered glycolic peel is applied. The unique formulation of BeautyRx’s glycolic works its magic to invisibly and gently dissolve the top layer of dead, uneven skin to reveal gorgeous skin underneath. After two minutes, the peel is instantly neutralized with water, and the client is welcome to apply sunscreen and moisturizer. There’s no redness, downtime, or irritation – just glowing skin. This service is normally $225 at Dr. Schultz's office. At Blushington, you'll pay just $10 hands/$40 Neck and Decolletage/$50 full face.

Brow Tinting: There's no better way to create a polished and put-together look than having a strong brow. It frames your eyes and sets off your look without a lot of fuss. Don't mess with brow pencils and shadows - just like you color your hair, you can have your brows tinted. No fuss, no muss and you are out the door. $15 at Blushington.

Powder Foundation: I am crazy about Dallas-based Susan Posnick's ColorFlo mineral foundation because it's 3 products in one: sunscreen, foundation and powder. Simply brush and go with her self-dispensing refillable brush. COLORFLO provides powerful and natural sun protection and is invisible and weightless on the skin. It's also great packaging and easy to throw in your purse to re-apply later in the day. $68 online at SusanPosnick.com or avail. locally at Stanley Korshak.

Performance Polish: I love the way a great manicure makes my hands look, but I have always HATED that fact that it takes nail polish so long to dry! Thanks to new technology, performance polishes dry in just 5 minutes and come with a 5 day guarantee to not chip. Avail. at MiniLuxe (multiple Dallas Locations - my favorite is The Shops of Highland Park)

Adapt Collagen: I’ve never met a woman who wouldn’t like to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in their skin, or have stronger nails & hair, so let me share a new find with you. The magic bullet you require is more collagen protein in your diet. Dallas fitness trainer, Grant Alexander, has developed Adapt Restorative Collagen, which uses 100% natural, grass-fed collagen protein. Add a scoop into your daily 8 oz. smoothie, coffee, tea or any liquid beverage and enjoy a powerful dose of protein that our body easily absorbs to repair muscles, joints, hair, skin, nails and more. It’s tasteless, odorless, with no gritty feel. This is my kind of product – no pain, all gain! $48 at Adapthq.myshopify.com.

Disclaimer: Blushington is a client of my marketing firm/ad agency/whatever you want to call it. As I was learning about some of the new products and services they are offering, the information inspired this post.

Oh So Fabulous: Spa Adolphus

Adolphus SpaPhotos c/o The Adolphus Hotel

Since its opening in 1912, The Adolphus has served as an integral part of the city's history and culture. The Andrew Sisters, Tony Bennett, Johnny Mathis and Benny Goodman have performed here. Ronald Regan, Jimmy Carter, and Queen Elizabeth II have all stayed here. Located in the heart of downtown Dallas, The Adolphus has won numerous awards, including the coveted AAA Four Diamond and US News and World Report’s “Best Hotels in the USA”, while its storied French Room is the only restaurant in Texas to maintain an AAA Five Diamond Award for 25 consecutive years. The Adolphus has been undergoing a thoughtful renovation over the past year or so. First they tackled the guest rooms, then updated the ballrooms and last October, they opened the Spa Adolphus as a new urban retreat within the city. I was recently invited in to experience the 5,000 sq. ft. luxury spa and salon which features six treatment rooms, indoor and outdoor relaxation lounges, a couples’ room with a private terrace featuring spectacular downtown Dallas views and a large fitness facility.

Blushington Debuts Unlimited Membership

Blushington has just introduced a new unlimited membership service called Carte Blush giving you unlimited services on a monthly basis (insert mental image of me doing a happy dance here). Membership includes unlimited makeup applications, faux lash and waxing services, and a 10% discount on all products across all lounge locations for $250 per month with a 6 month minimum. Note: Lash Extensions and Beauty RX peels are not included.

I don't consider myself a girly-girl. I mean, I enjoy dressing up for parties but truth be told, I'd rather be barefoot than in a 5" stiletto. But one of the girly things I do love is getting my makeup professionally done. Oh, the things a good makeup artist can do! From smoky eyes to dramatic cheekbones, to fuller lips, and creating that just-right angle of your brow. Magic.

Blushington is my studio of choice for all makeup and beauty needs. In addition to providing makeup services, they also offer facial/brow waxing and lash extensions. The Blushington mission is to provide consumers with professional makeup applications at affordable prices in a well-designed, friendly and fun atmosphere, transforming the experience from a special occasion luxury to an everyday necessity. All of the makeup they use on you is available for sale, so if you fall in love with a lipstick color - you can take it home with you. And speaking of lip color, if you are on the hunt for the perfect nude, they have just brought back their exclusive B. Lovely lipstick shade. Buy it today!

Blushington is located at 4218 Oak Lawn Ave, Dallas, TX 75219, (214) 521-9200, www.blushington.com. Download their app to book from your phone!

Discover Personalized Skincare With Kiehl's Apothecary Preparations

Kiehl's Apothecary Preparations
Photos c/o Danielle Sabol

My grandfather was a doctor in small West Texas town. One of my prized possessions is his old medical bag full of potions and powders and medical equipment from the 1950s. I've always had a fascination with the scientific aspect of medicine. So, I was excited to receive an invitation from Kiehl’s to be one of the first to experience their new Apothecary Preparations - a truly personalized skincare featuring potent concentrates that address an individual’s unique skin concerns. The personalized, in-store-only service launched nationwide in select Kiehl’s stores this October. This new innovation is amongst the first in the skincare industry to bring bespoke skincare to the masses. This industry achievement is comprised of Kiehl’s Skin Strengthening Concentrate, plus two, individually selected Targeted Complexes. These pharmaceutical meets herbal concentrates feature a blend of advanced ingredients and are specifically selected for each customer’s skin. Through an elevated consultation and diagnosis, customers are able to craft a personalized formula based on their two most significant skin concerns. Options include: redness, wrinkles, rough texture, large pores and dullness. Once the Targeted Complexes have been selected and the consultation is complete, the Apothecary Preparation’s components are enclosed in a personalized box for the customer, who then mixes them at home prior to first application. The result is a highly potent, tailor-made skincare treatment.

So, how does it work?

MiniLuxe Totally Nails It
by Contributor, Jayne Herring

After a couple of years living in a beautiful beach town, I’ve come back to Dallas with a penchant for flip flops and a determination to not get too fancied up too soon. It didn’t take long to realize however the toll that a month of packing, moving, and unpacking had taken on my nails and skin, and that a little pampering was definitely in order. But having a new baby at home, clean and toxin-free environments and products are more important than ever, as is being a good example to my daughters by living a socially responsible and ethical life. Finding salons that work with these high standards in an industry known for shortcuts and toxins is not always easy. This is why I was thrilled to attend MiniLuxe's Grand Opening in Uptown Plaza.

The dramatic TOM FORD store represents Ford’s extremely modern vision of a complete world of menswear and womenswear that is made to the highest level of craftsmanship, personalized to the wearer’s needs, and delivered in a sumptuous and sensual atmosphere. (At least that's what the Highland Park Village website says.) Heidi Dillon hosted a holiday soiree earlier this week for select fashionable friends to view the latest collections and experience an interactive makeup tutorial. The Fashionistas founder has always been known for her style, but this past year she has developed a new obsession with makeup - even training at the MAKE UP FOR EVER Academy in NYC to harness her prowess with a brush and palate. The Tom Ford boutique, run by manager Joe Flores, encompasses the complete menswear and womenswear collections, including ready-to-wear, men’s made-to-measure, footwear, accessories, eyewear, fragrance, and beauty under the TOM FORD label. You can visit this beautiful boutique in Highland Park Village at Preston and Mockingbird.

7 Tips for Better Brows from Claria Renee Beauty

Claria Renee Beauty is a luxury brow studio and product line run by Claria Nieves. She recently invited me in to visit her salon and visit about the benefits of brow beauty. I accepted, not because I have bushy, over-grown brows but because I have the opposite problem. As a child of the 70s/80s, I came of age in an era where thin brows were in and over-plucking was common. The problem is that once you hit your 40s, your hair growth slows and those brows not only don't grow back as fully, they start to thin. So, I was curious as to what Claria would have to say about how to regenerate brow growth or see if she could give me any tips to give the illusion of a fuller brow without it looking too drawn in and fake.

A before and after photo from Claria Renee Beauty from Facebook

7 Tips for Better Brows from Claria Renee Beauty

  1. Do NOT pluck your grays. Plucking them will leave open gaps in your brow line that will then have to be filled in and look unnatural. Better to leave the natural hair where it is and just tint it.
  2. Wondering if your brows should match your hair color? If you have dark hair, your brows should be a shade lighter. Blonde or lighter hair? Then take your brows a shade darker. They should never match exactly.
  3. If your brows have started to thin, rub Castor Oil on them at night. The acts as a growth agent and will work as well, if not better, than some of those pricey salon products you might have seen pitched.
  4. Use a highlighting shadow right under the brow to make them look fuller and make your eyes pop more
  5. Always brush your brows upwards, never down - even at the ends. This makes the hairs stand up making them look fuller.
  6. Shadow is preferable to a brow pencil. It will look softer and more natural. Get a good brow brush, place some shadow at the bottom of your brow and move upward, using soft strokes
  7. Use a brow gel to finish off the look. Just like you would use a styling product in your hair. A brow gel will keep your brows lifted and in place throughout the day.

Not only did I love how my brows looked after Claria got her hands on them, the entire appointment took 19 minutes and brow maintenance is an affordable $35. You gotta love that! Claria Renee Beauty is located at 4503 Travis Street above Cafe Madrid. To make an appointment, contact Claria at claria@lashmaxx.com or call (214) 564-4237.

Estée Lauder visits Dallas to celebrate their love affair with Neiman Marcus

Hundreds of style bloggers, fashion media and socialites turned out to celebrate a new in-store shop for Estée Lauder at Neiman Marcus NorthPark on Wednesday, June 18.

Leonard Lauder (Estée Lauder's son and Chairman Emeritus) brought his "traveling companion" international actress, model and brand ambassador Elizabeth Hurley to town just for the occasion. Lauder was just a delight and held the crowd rapt with the story about how his mother came to Dallas in 1950 to pitch her new line to Neiman Marcus.

Seems the cosmetics buyer foisted her off onto an assistant buyer. Undeterred by the snub, Estée marched the assistant buyer into the ladies room and gave her a facial and applied her make-up. "She emerged.. glamorous! And if you had seen her before, she was not so glamorous," chuckled Lauder. 64 years later, the love affair between the two companies is still strong.

Jim Gold, President and Chief Merchandising Officer of Neiman Marcus Group, presented some Texas-themed gifts to the esteemed visitors: Hurley received a bouquet of yellow roses and Lauder a cowboy hat which gleefully donned. Lauder proclaimed Dallas women to be amongst the most beautiful in the world. "Look to your left, look to your right and you'll see what I mean," he mused. Hey, he'll get no argument from me!

Discover Custom Cosmetics from Sayuki

photo: Coast Magazine
I am a firm believer in celebrating the traits and characteristics that are uniquely you. Why would you want to look and sound and be like everyone else. B-O-R-I-N-G. Just like snowflakes, no two humans are alike and that goes for our skin, which can make finding that perfect foundation a challenge. Neiman Marcus introduced me to an exciting new company recently that I just had to share with you. It's called Sayuki Custom Cosmetics.

After spending 17 years selling cosmetics for major brands. Tracy Sayuki Wells has heard every question and complaint in the book when it comes to matching a foundation to your skin.  So, she decided to try and invent a solution. "I had an airhead moment one day and thought wouldn't it be cool if there was a machine that could scan your face and create a blend of colors and tones that would match a woman's skin perfectly?!" If Home Depot could do it with paint colors, why couldn't it be done with shin tones? After 3 1/2 years of research and development, Sayuki Custom Cosmetics was launched in 2013.

So, how does it work? You have a brief consultation with a Sayuki Custom Cosmetics advisor abut your skin (Normal or oily? You like sheer, medium or full coverage?). The advisor then places the Sayuki Skin Color Scanning device onto your cheek and neck, which analyzes your skin. That data is fed into a computer and moments later, sleek pumping metal gadgets dispense a rainbow of exacting amounts of streamlined colors that, blended, match your skin color.
